PUMPKIN HILL RENOVATION

Before the renovation, Pumpkin Hill was a nondescript ranch house lacking the character to match its romantic, picturesque setting. The owners hired DWA to create a bucolic retreat in the Craftsman style. Money was carefully channeled to create character and spaciousness, not square footage.

DWA opened up the interior and added cabin-like details throughout. The process involved dismantling two walls, adding a porch and a dormer window, using tapered bungalow columns, changing the windows, and installing a cozy wood stove as the focal point of the interior.

The Pumpkin Hill renovation perfectly illustrates one of the principles that guides DWA: improving the character of an existing structure often yields a better result than increasing square footage--the spirit of a house lies in the architectural details and the mastery of spatial composition.
