At DWA, we pay close attention to the environmental ramifications of our designs; we care about the impact our buildings have on the lives of the people who inhabit them and the land on which they stand. Since its inception, our firm has embraced the concept of picturesque, "green" design - design that is inspired by and sensitive to the landscape and the environment. Today, a growing number of people recognize the benefits of buildings that utilize renewable, reusable, and biodegradable materials; that maximize natural resources; produce more energy than they consume; and are healthier to all involved, from those that live and work in them to the builders who construct them to those who produce the construction materials. We believe these goals embody the full meaning of romantic, picturesque architecture: to create beautiful, personal, functional spaces that enrich, rather than deplete, the resources of the natural site.

More than ever before, the architectural community, the construction industry, and our consultants and clients are seeking ways to have a positive impact on our environment. Designing homes and public spaces that are both healthier for the natural world and expressive of our individuality requires a challenging, modern approach to architecture. It demands knowledge of local materials and traditional techniques as well as an awareness of newly invented components and technologies. It also requires a collaborative effort by team members in order to develop site-specific, need-specific, spirited designs that are intended to last for generations to come.
